Format & Regulations

  • - Cantonese Mahjong is played in the full gun style including flower tiles. 
    There is a total of 144 tiles.

  • Scoring is chip-based. Gambling is strictly prohibited.

  • Minimum winning hand is 3 fan (32 points); hand scored under this minimum is 
    considered a Trick Hand (詐糊) which is invalid and the player will be 
    penalised.

  • Maximum score of a winning hand is 10 fan (512 points).

  • Players must draw and discard the final tile. This includes the 'Win by Last 
    Catch' condition.

  • Claiming a win with a Trick Hand results in a 10 fan (512 points) fine to an 
    adjudicator. Other players do not receive this fine.

  • Blocking a win is allowed unless a player has a 'Thirteen Orphans' hand.

  • Dealer rotation is required after a draw (摸和) when no players win.

  • Robbing a kong (槓) is considered self-draw. The kong-drawer pays all other 
    players.- Players with a 12-tile hand has to pay all other players.

  • After each winning hand, all players must verify their chips and ensure proper 
    scoring. Once chips begin to be exchanged, no appeals will be accepted.

  • Any disputes must be raised immediately during the match. Once scores are 
    submitted to and are verified by the staff, no complaints will be processed.

  • No appeals are allowed. All results are subject to the final judgement of the 
    organising committee.

  • Each match consists of 4 rounds. Players must not continue after these four 
    rounds and must submit their results for verification. Violations will result in 
    score invalidation for all players at that table.

  • Any form of gambling, cheating, or collusion is strictly prohibited.

  • Players violating rules or are displaying actions of misconduct could be 
    disqualified without a refund. Their scores will be nullified.

  • Private agreements or conduct found to undermine fair play will result in 
    disqualification or score invalidation.

  • The organisers are not responsible for disputes between players arising from 
    private agreements.

  • Players are responsible for their own belongings.- Participants must agree that the organiser may use event photos or videos for 
    promotional purposes.

  • The organiser is not liable for any accidents or injuries during the event.

  • The organiser reserves the right to modify rules, prizes, or arrangements 
    without prior notice.

  • Final decisions rest solely with the organiser.

  • Official rules as listed by the organiser applies.


Scoring Method

  • Each participant plays for 2 rounds.

  • Each round consists of 4 matches (8 matches in total).

  • Seating is assigned randomly by the organiser's computer system.

  • Tables are pre-set with positions of 'winds' (East / South / West / North). Players sit according to their assigned positions.

  • After the first round, the staff will record all scores.

  • Before the second round, players are reseated and chips are redistributed.

  • Final rankings are based on the cumulative score of both rounds.

  • Each round has a 135-minute time limit (2 hours and 15 minutes)

  • The top four scorers will become the Champion, Runner-up, 3rd Place, and 4th Place of the region.

  • In case of a tie, players will draw at random 1-Man to 9-Man tiles. The player 
    with the highest Man tile number wins.

(Each regional station may have special awards. All winners qualify for the UK Grand Finals in June.)
